Become a Scholar at BRICK Buffalo Academy

An education from BRICK Buffalo Academy will allow your scholar to be educated and led by people who resemble them, sound like them and truly believe in the whole child.

Our innovative model couples a rigorous curriculum with a focus on Social Emotional Learning competencies to ensure we are supporting children beyond academics. BRICK Buffalo believes in a holistic model where we provide not only rigorous instruction but also wrap-around services to include Family Support, Workforce Development, and Health & Housing. We believe a successful education begins with more than just the scholar sitting in our seat.

WHAT SETS BRICK Buffalo APART?

Diverse Staff.

We are committed to empowering a diverse team of staff members who reflect the backgrounds and identities of our scholars. In fact, 86% of our school staff currently identify as people of color, including our Principal, our Executive Director, and our Board Chair.

World Class Academics.

We provide a rigorous academic program that will ensure students learn the knowledge and skills they need for college and careers. In fact, our first new campus had the 2nd highest rate of mathematics growth in the entire state.

Ubuntu Cultural Program.

We know that strong relationships are the key to a strong school culture. As a result, we first prioritize supporting teachers to build strong relationships with their students. We then work to create a warm and welcoming school environment by supporting positive identity development, focusing on social-emotional learning, and providing additional mental health supports to ensure that every scholar has the support they need to thrive.

Culturally Responsive Instruction.

We know that students learn best when their teachers understand their culture and their unique strengths. As a result, we focus on tailoring our instruction to ensure that it celebrates the identities of our students, meets their unique developmental needs, and empowers them to become college ready.

Extended Day and Year.

We plan to offer an extended day (from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and an extended school year (191 days) to ensure students have the additional instructional time they need to become college ready.

Supporting the Entire Family.

We know that it is our responsibility to support both our scholars and their families. As a result, we have formed community partnerships that will enable us to provide our families with the unique support they need, including in the critical areas of health care, affordable housing, job training, and early childhood education.

Mission

At BRICK Buffalo Academy Charter School ("BBACS"), we will graduate a community of learners who will contribute positively to our global society and embrace their role as architects in building a just and better world. We use a holistic approach to ensure that students from East Buffalo neighborhoods have the knowledge, skills and support needed to be college, career and life-ready upon graduation. Our school provides a rigorous, inclusive and culturally responsive curriculum that challenges students academically and builds their social emotional competencies. We also immerse our families in an ecosystem of rich community partnerships to support them in maintaining the stable and healthy homes necessary for children to thrive. In partnership with our families, we empower our students to draw strength from their identity and become leaders in their communities.
